Sullivan’s Steakhouse Restaurant is an up and coming steakhouse chain that currently has 18 locations throughout the United States. Sullivan’s recently opened one of its restaurants in Leawood, Ks (a suburb of Kansas City, Mo).

Sullivan’s website describes their restaurant  as a 1940’s Chicago-Style Steakhouse offering the finest Certified Angus Beef, select seafood, veal, pork, lamb and chicken entrees. In this case,  I believe that Chicago is well represented.

The Leawood Sullivan’s Steakhouse Restaurant has been a huge success for the company. The General Manager has told me that it is one of their largest locations, but the bar is for certain the largest bar in their chain. The bar has been a huge success for Sullivan’s. Thursday night has special prices for the bar’s drink and food. When it first opened you had to get to the bar by 5:30 P.M. to get a seat on Thursday night. Within a few weeks, if you were not in the bar by 4:00 P.M. you did not get a seat….can you believe that people left work at 4:00 P.M. to get a seat at a happy hour…that is a popular bar.

Sullivan’s has a great steak. I have had it on a number of occassions. While it has been a little inconsistent, I have chalked it up to being a new restaurant with new staff. But, when the steak is made right, it is hard to beat anywhere. I had the steak last night and it was GREAT!

Arthur Bryant’s BBQ restaurant deserves to be the first Kansas City restaurant review that we have included in this blog. Arthur Bryants Barbeque Restaurant has sat at the same location since 1930. It has a rich history.  For most of the early years it was just down the street from the old Kansas City Municipal Stadium. In those years the ballpark was home to the Kansas City Athletic’s baseball team and the Kansas City Chiefs football team. When these professional ball teams played ball in the stadium, the legend of Arthur Bryant’s was born. Fans would make Arthur Bryants a stop before every game. 

In 1970, Municipal Stadium was replaced with two fantastic stadiums..Arrowhead Stadium (home to the Kansas City Chiefs) and Kaufman Stadium (home to the Kansas City Royals). Eventually Municipal Stadium was torn down, but Arthur Bryant’s has survived and frankly, it has thrived. Almost every United States President and many famous actors and celebrities have been to Arthur Bryant’s over the year. Many towns can brag about their BBQ, but few Barbeque restaurants have been around as long as Arthur Bryants

Arthur Bryant’s barbeque is excellent. The beef, ribs and turkey are smoked for many hours. The meat is tender and full of the smoke flavor. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable for the size of the portions served. They are known for their french fries as well. They are homemade fries. Two people can easily split a sandwich and fries. You cannot have BBQ without the addition of the red beverage (not officially called strawberry, but seems like it to me).

Arthur Bryant’s was one of the first BBQ restaurants in Kansas City. It started an industry in Kansas City and today there are probably over 100 BBQ restaurants in Kansas City. But, while some of these other Barbeque restaurants have great barbeque, none are any better than Arthur Bryant’s and none of them have the ambiance, history and following of Arthur Bryants. Long live the King!!

Great Question!

Frankly, it is because we love food. But, just as important, we want to include all sorts of items in our blog to make it more valuable to everyone. After all, restaurant and food service products are a big part of business. We will select restaurants without any consideration as to whether they are customers.

To increase the value of the restaurant reviews, we are going to try to get a picture (when possible) of an item that Supply Hero sells in its restaurant and food service section and that the restaurant that is being reviewed uses in its operation.

We are a Kansas City based company so you can expect a lot of Kansas City based restaurants, but we will also cover restaurants that we eat at when we travel.

Most of us believe that Kansas City is the home of BBQ. Well, I know that everyone would like to challenge that, but please be assured that we will review a lot of BBQ restaurants in Kansas City.
