Fels Naptha, uses and safety information
07 16th, 2009

If you’ve ever used Fels-Naptha, you know it is a laundry detergent bar that is great for pre-treating stains laundry stains. Treatment is administered by rubbing the dampened product on a soiled area prior to laundering. According to Dial, Fels-Naptha is most effective in removing chocolate, baby formula, perspiration, and make-up. However, is also great for (off-label) home remedies like treating poison ivy and skin irritations.

It should be noted however, that Fels-Naptha is not a body soap and should not be used as an overall body wash as it contains Stoddard, a solvent that is a skin and eye irritant. This is according to the Fels-Naptha MSDS sheet. Fels-Naptha is manufactured by and is a trademark of the Dial Corporation.

There is however a recipe that can be found right here on the supply hero blog for turning everyday fels-Naptha into laundry detergent.  Here is a copy of that recipe…

Powdered Laundry Detergent

  • 1/2 cup Arm and Hammer (washing soda)
  • 1 cup Fels-Naptha Soap (grated
  • 1/2 cup 20 borax (mule team)

Mix throroughly, then store in an airtight container.

Use 2 tablespoon for light loads, and 3 tablespoons for heavier ones.
